My “Feathered Friends” pattern emerged from endless musings over the dye pot; all of my wool felt is dyed by hand with plant-based materials. While inspired by the frequent feathered visitors to our Massachusetts home, it does not attempt to capture specific bird species, but leaves room for your own imaginings. When selecting felt, you can be whimsical or follow the three different bird combinations depicted in my photos to suggest common species: the “Soaring” silhouette for a high-flying swallow or lark, “Swooping” for a large songbird, and “Fluttering” for a small sparrow or golden finch. Hang them from a sturdy branch or wreath of vines in your home, and welcome your backyard birds into your family. Enjoy!
