This instant download PDF sewing pattern provides instructions for hand sewing your own sweet Waldorf-inspired butterfly pocket doll: a caterpillar baby inside it's wing pocket!
These butterfly dolls are entirely hand sewn using common natural materials. The project is intended for novice adults or experienced older kids. Younger children (ages 7+) may enjoy helping an adult to stitch the butterfly wing pocket, but they will find the caterpillar body too difficult.
The pattern provides detailed written and illustrated instructions for making both the removable caterpillar baby doll (about 3 inches tall) and the felt butterfly pocket (about a 5 1/2 inch wingspan). The pockets can be left beautifully simple, you can make up your own designs, or you can choose from one of the three provided designs. I also provide you with video tutorials reviewing the common embroidery stitches: French Knot, Laisy Daizy, and Chain Stitch: https://www.wee-things.com/tutorials. If you'd like to watch a full 70-minute pre-recorded workshop, that is available for purchase here: https://youtu.be/HEJvCRVPv-8
Each pocket hangs from a cotton twill tape or ribbon and is perfect for carrying on a wrist or hanging up from a door handle or window latch. Your child is going to love this toy!
