About the event

Come enjoy a special afternoon of contemplative stitching in the lovely historic setting of the Montague Common Hall! (Please note the historic building is currently not handicap accessible. You can learn more about our amazing hall and support their efforts here: https://montaguecommonhall.org) In this beginner-friendly workshop for adults and teens, we will explore the centuries-old Japanese sewing technique called "sashiko". Traditionally used to securely quilt small fabric patches onto thread-bare clothing, sashiko translates to “little stabs” and consists of simple running stitches in beautiful geometric patterns. This is a great technique for anyone new to handwork! We will be using specialty sashiko cotton thread and needles to decorate a swatch of linen, and we'll then stuff and mount the fabric inside a sturdy wooden base. All participants will go home with not only their completed pincushion, but also their own set of sashiko needles and threads for use on future…
